An Egli Christmas

The holidays have always been an exciting, albeit stressful time for me. December was always a time for exams, snowstorms, and rushing home to be with the family for Christmas. This year, I traveled all the way from sunny and tropical Bali to be home for the holidays.

Belonging to a Swiss family means three important things on Christmas:

  1. We celebrate on Christmas Eve.This means eating, relaxing, and gift-giving happens before most people have even finished their shopping
  2. Real, live candles on the Christmas tree! Yep, you bet. We risk it all in the name of conventional wax. Nothing quite compares to the flickering glow of a tree adorned with pretty natural lights. No, we don't leave them on for more than a few minutes.
  3. Chocolate!! The best are the Lindt decorations that are hung on the tree. As the holidays progress, you graze on the hanging treats until cleaning off the tree involves no more than sweeping up the wrappers on the floor.
